Thicker, harder, better, ...



Hard anodizing is an evolution of the normal anodizing procedure.
Much thicker, harder and more wear-resistant coatings can be produced. The electrolyte and the process parameters are to be redefined and perfectly matched.

In order to reduce the coefficient of friction by a factor of 3-5, we include PTFE by request.
The layer thickness is achievable alloy-specific and requires the determination in each case.

The layers are formed out of the substrate. This has the consequence that the highest possible adhesion between coating and base metal is reached and flaking of the layer can not occur. Depending on the alloy layer and its thickness the color changes from light bronze to dark gray (also black is possible).
Since the Hard Oxide is having a larger volume than the aluminium substrate, there is a dimensional change.
In the anodizing process, the oxide layer grows columnar halfway into the base material, half of it builds up to the outside.
This must be taken into account in fits of precision parts.
